Guidelines, Suggestions, Instructions & FAQs for High Resolution Artwork

  • What is HiRes? High Resolution means that there are more dots per square inch that make up the digital image of your artwork. We ask that you submit a minimum resolution of 300dpi, the standard resolution used in book printing.

Have your work professionally photographed if possible! We have seen lots of truly great, beautiful artwork that, when sent to us as a HiRes slide or image, was poorly lit (glare on the canvas) or just not well focused. We want to showcase your hard work and talent as best as possible, and highly recommend that if you are a great painter or sculpter, but not a photographer, you go to the extra expense of having your work professionally photographed. The cost will pay for itself time and time again, as you are able to reuse the image to promote your work!
.
What are the required specifications for my image? We ask that the image(s) you send us meet the following requirements:
  • One image per piece of paper. Multiple images presented on the same sheet may not be considered.
  • A hard copy of each image must be presented along with any slide or digital image.(A good visual presentation will increase your chances of selection through the weaving process)
  • physical size no less than 5x7 (8x10 is preferred)
  • minimum 300 dpi resolution
  • Highest quality JPEG file is acceptable (and preferred if uploading to FTP)
  • RGB is fine, especially if uploading to FTP
  • Professional quality slides can be sent by mail - please note, materials often cannot be returned
  • Images can be burned to CD and mailed to us. These files should be 300dpi, physically no smaller than 5x7, CMYK, Tiff files.
  • Where do I mail my CD(s) and/or slide(s)? Please send your materials to:
    181 Brimstone Road
    Wolf Creek, OR 97497
    ATTN: ART DEPT
  • How do I upload my work to an FTP server?
  • Email sequoia@wemoon.ws for instructions on how to upload to the FTP server. If you are not familiar with FTP, this option may not be for you.
  • If your digital image is less than 300 dpi, changing the file settings in Photoshop does not make it HiRes! Changing the file size in Photoshop only increases the physical size of the image - there will be more pixels, but they will be the same distance apart from each other. Trust us, this doesn't work, especially for images that are being blown up for a full-page.
In order to facilitate the smoothest process of decision making and placement, please observe the following notes:
  • Being contacted for HiRes artwork does not necessarily mean that your work will be printed. In many cases it will be, but not in all cases.
  • Some factors that may affect the final art choices are: file quality, quality of photography of work or relationship of piece to content.
  • IF YOU HAVE NOT FILLED OUT AND SENT IN THE APPROPRIATE LICENSING FORMS, YOUR WORK CANNOT BE PUBLISHED! Please mail or fax us your forms ASAP if you have not already done so! For your convenience, you can download the forms by visiting the contributor's page.
